Women’s Network
Women are still under-represented at all levels of government, and the Co-operative Party wants to change that.
The Women’s Network is open to all women in the Co-operative Party and aims to increase the number of women co-operators selected and elected as MPs, MSPs, AMs and councillors.
We can offer practical advice and support, as well as inspiration and encouragement. If you are an aspiring candidate, or might be but don’t know where to start, or if you have stood for office at any level and want to help others, please join.
To join the network email women@party.coop.
Events
As part of the International Year of Co-operatives Festival taking place 16 September in Wakefield, there will be an update on the Co-operative Women’s Challenge, the initiative to put women at the heart of the co-operative movement. Download a flyer
Co-operative Party Parliamentary Panel
The Co-operative Party’s Parliamentary Panel 2010 has now been dissolved and applications for the new panel are invited.
If you would like to be a Co-operative Party parliamentary candidate, you first need to be a member of the Party’s Panel. Contact j.fortune@party.coop to be sent a form and details.
We have now held two training events for women interested in applying to the Parliamentary panel, and we hope hold more. Email women@party.coop if you are interested.
Look around your local party or branch: who do you know who would be a brilliant candidate but just needs a bit of encouragement? Go on – you know she can do it!
Recruitment
Women are under-represented in the Party as well as in Parliament, but you can help to change that. For copies of our new women’s recruitment form, email d.kseba@party.coop.
Campaigns
The NEC is currently reviewing whether our key campaigns appeal to women. If not, why not, and what are we going to do about it? Email your thoughts and ideas to women@party.coop or take our survey.
